Like many others during this time, social distancing has made me re discover my love for reading! With all this time I have finally started to put a dent in my reading bucketlist. Here have been some of my favorites from different genres.
All books can be found on Amazon, and are linked to the product.
Self Improvement: Own Your Everyday | Jordan Dooley
First, I want to say this is NOT your typical motivational, self-help book. It’s actually the opposite. The author Jordan is a young, successful online business woman and this book is about taking the pressure off of yourself to do big things and instead encourages you to be intentional with finding purpose in your normal everyday life, plus it’s all presented in the context of faith and love. Basically I would recommend this book to ANY woman in ANY stage of life! It’s a breath of fresh air.
Inspirational: Everybody Always | Bob Goff
Christian based nonfiction is one of my favorite genres because it just leaves you feeling so inspired to be better. Everybody Always, is an easy read and it compels you to feel like you could change the world by loving people around you.
Bob Goff’s other best seller is Love Does. I recommend both.
Christian Devotional: Jesus Calling | Sarah Young
I am on my third year cycle of this devotional! I absolutely love starting my mornings off by reading scripture, and “Jesus Calling” is a non intimidating, easy to read way to do so. Each daily reading is based on 2 or 3 bible passages and reads as though Jesus himself is talking to you. I have found this book immensely uplifting, non-preachy, incredibly personal and meaningful. Between reading this devotional and writing in my gratitude journal, my morning routine is my favorite part of the day.
Romance & Thriller: The Guardian | Nicholas Sparks
A romance and thriller all in one! I don’t want to give too much away, but if you’re a dog lover YOU NEED TO READ! This book is about a young widow, her puppy who was purchased for her from her husband to protect her, the wife falling in love again, and somewhere along the way she acquires a stalker… making her life never the same!
I think everyone and their mom has read this book, but if you haven’t had the chance now is your time! This book is filled with emotion. Kya, the main character, is trying to survive by herself from a young age. She has been abandoned by those who should teach her, guide her, and protect her. Two men come into her life and teach her about the good and bad in life.
Historical Fiction : All the Light We Cannot See | Anthony Doerr
Taking place in France and Germany during WWII, the author goes back and forth from telling the story from two points of views: one protagonist is a young, blind girl who travels with her father to a small village after the German soldiers invade France. The other lead character is a young German orphan. Through a series of events, he becomes a radioman and without giving anything away the two character’s paths collide as the insanity and horrors of war are visited upon all the characters in this book. It’s a sad read, but a good one!
I hope this list can provide you some sort of entertainment for the weeks of social distancing ahead of us. Let me know if I forgot any of your favorites, I plan to recreate a list of favorite books every couple of weeks!
