Chemical Peel Before & After Results

Happy New Years ladies & gents!

What better way to start off 2020 then with a little self love?! I know that’s what I did!

Long story short, my 2019 was filled with a lot of stress and frustration when it came to my skin. I started breaking out more than I ever had with cystic hormonal acne + started seeing signs of early aging. NOT FUN! For the past year I have tried EVERYTHING minus Accutane and DRUM ROLL.... A chemical peel (shocker) to help calm down my breakouts and help with scarring / preventing wrinkles!

For all my people out there that don't know what a chemical peel is: a chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing treatment in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. Depending on the type and strength of chemical peel you choose, they are supposedly great for treating fine lines, acne scarring, and discoloration. Sounds like a miracle mask, right?!

I’ve been wanting to try a chemical peel for so long, I just never had enough downtime where I could look like a molted snake and not be working out.

For my specific chemical peel treatment I got the PCA Jessner Peel at Vivid Skin and Laser Center. I was told it was a “medium” peel, so basically it would help brighten my skin and get rid of my dark spots due to past acne. My esthetician had also mentioned (depending on the person), I may or may not peel at all.

She broke it down like this:

Day 1 and Day 2: Feeling of tight skin

Day 3 and 4: Should be the worst peeling days (if you peel, everyone is different) Day 7: Should be healed, maybe a little pink.

Tracking my day to day progress below!

Day 1: Right after, I probably had 3 passes of the chemical solution applied to my face! My skin felt oily, but good news.. it didn’t hurt at all, maybe a 2 out of 10! The solution smelled a little strong, but what can you expect, you’re applying an alcohol substance to your face! My skin already feels a tad tighter, and as the day went on my face got more red.

The rules are: I cant wear make-up, and I can’t work out for 72ish hours. This night I did not wash my face.

Day 2: I washed my face with a gentle cleanser, put on a vitamin C serum, moisturized, and lastly I applied my favorite sunscreen. When I first woke up I didn’t notice anything different than day 1, and of course I forgot to take a picture :( . My face was a little itchy, and as the day went on my face got more and more dry + red. Still no peeling. I feel my complexion did brighten, and any active breakouts I had dried up and are non existent now. Sweeeet!

Day 3: Woke up, and did the same morning routine as the day before. I was told this would be the worst day of peeling, but if anything I just noticed some flakes around my mouth and chin area. Feels pretty dry, but again nothing a good moisturizer can’t fix! Starting to think I may not peel at all?

Day 4: Just when I thought I wasn't going to peel, the skin Gods said HAHA & just like that the peeling has started! It still is not sheet-like, like most chemical peels you see on the internet. I’m experiencing more flakiness, and it is most noticeable with makeup, which I’m probably still not supposed to be wearing. Oops.

Day 5: According to my esthetician my peeling should have been going downhill from here on out, but instead the peeling has migrated to my forehead and is worse than yesterday. I also started to breakout in spots that have already peeled.. I’m not sure if this is normal or not? However, I can’t stand not working out anymore, so I may have broke the rules and worked out this morning, but not working out was literally driving me insane.

Day 6:

I woke up and miraculously the peeling was very minimum, maybe just a few flakes left on my forehead. I went ahead and did my normal face routine, which is using a heavier duty face wash, toner, serums, treatments, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

Day 7: Same as day 6, I’d say I’ve healed!

Overall

My tip: Plan a whole week of downtime because as much as I planned my weekend around what I thought would be my “peeling” time I didn’t even start to really peel until Sunday… 4 days after I got it!

I personally wanted to get a peel to diminish my acne scars, help with my fine lines / pores, and to brighten my skin. I don’t necessarily think I got the progress I wanted with this specific peel, but I think most people have to do a series of peels to see better results. I think next time I will try the Skinmedica Vitalize peel, which is MUCH stronger!

Let me know below you skin tips and tricks or favorite treatments!

xoxo,

Cami
