Updated: Aug 10, 2020

Heading to Telluride, Colorado in the summer? More than likely hiking is at the top of your priority “to-do” list-- as it should be! Telluride is FILLED with giant waterfalls, beautiful nature, and some of the most picture perfect hikes in all of the United States!

Easy Hikes

1. Cornet Creek Falls : This is a short hike with a spectacular finish at the 80-foot Cornet Falls. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for some scrambling on loose soil and rocks.

Distance: .25 miles

Time: Less than 1 hour round trip

Moderate Hikes

1. Bear Creek Falls : One of telluride's most popular trails! Bear Creek Falls is a well-marked wooded trail that ends in a magnificent set of waterfalls. If you keep hiking past Bear Creek Falls you can find a hidden gem of a trail called the: Little Hawaii Trail

Distance: 2.5 miles one way to the Falls

Elevation Gain: 1,050 feet

Time: 1 hour and 15 minutes from Trailhead to the Falls at a leisurely pace.

2. Bridal Veil Falls : The tallest free-falling falls in Colorado (365 feet in height)

Distance: 1.8 miles one-way to top of the falls

Elevation Gain: 1,650 feet

Time: 1 hour one way at a leisurely pace

3. Jud Weibe Trail: A town favorite & heavily trafficked! This trail will take you through groves of aspen trees, wide open meadows, and panoramic views of Telluride.

Distance: 3.1 miles

Elevation Gain: 1,213 feet

Time: Approximately, 2 hours at a leisurely pace

Route Type: Loop

Difficult Hikes

1. Blue Lakes Located 44 miles away from Telluride, the Blue Lakes hike can be as difficult or as easy as you want it to be! This hike goes to three stunning blue lakes, with the first stop being 6.3 miles round trip & a 1,590 foot elevation gain, and the last stop being 11 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 3,560 feet. No matter where you decide to end, the hike is filled with wildflowers galore, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and plenty of picture-perfect resting spots.

Local Tip: Definitely go early if you want to do this hike. The weather here is ever-changing, and afternoon rain/thunderstorms will sneak up on you, which is not ideal above the tree-line.

  • First Stop: Lower Blue Lakes (Camping is available here if you want to make it a multi-day trip) Distance: 6.3 miles round trip Difficulty: Moderate Elevation Gain: 1,590 feet Time: 4 hours

  • Second Stop: Upper Blue Lakes Distance: 8.2 miles round trip Difficulty: Strenuous Elevation Gain: 2,400 feet Time: 5-6 hours

  • Third Stop: Blue Lakes Pass Distance: 11.0 miles round trip Difficulty: Strenuous Elevation Gain: 3,650 feet Time: 6+ hours
