This is one of those bucket list items in Maui that you should definitely put on the must-do list because you simply haven’t seen Maui if you haven’t driven the road to Hana.
First of all, I recommend getting your own rental car (preferably a Jeep for the full Jurassic Park affect... you'll thank me later), so you can go enjoy everything on your own time versus a tour guides timeline; however, I’m not going to lie, I am honestly shocked we survived this drive without a tour company. Props to my dad for driving 64 miles through 617 hairpin curves and 54 one-lane bridges on easily the narrowest road I have ever seen-- and props to me for not getting carsick! (:
SO if all that scares you (it probably should) definitely be sure book the road to Hana through a tour company because I would hate for anyone to miss out on this Maui adventure.

Next Time Tips:
If I ever have the amazing opportunity to experience the Road to Hana again, I would first make this into a two day excursion. It honestly gets exhausting. I would also recommend driving all the way to the end to start to beat the traffic, and then make the stops on the way back up that way each stop is less busy plus you won't be as paranoid to be short on time before the sun falls.. the last thing you want is to be driving on that road at night! (there aren't any lights)!
Thanks for reading! If I missed any of your favorite hidden gem stops be sure to let me know!
